Position Description

The Department of History at Baylor University seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor in Early American History (colonial to early 19th century) to start August 1, 2025. This is a full-time, tenure-track position with the possibility of tenure for highly qualified applicants.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a research and teaching agenda appropriate for an R-1 institution. Preference will be given to candidates who meet one or more of the following: a record of published scholarship, teaching experience, a capacity to mentor Ph.D. students, and a potential to seek external research funding.

We especially welcome applications from candidates whose scholarship engages religion and American life.

Qualifications

The successful candidate:

  • will possess an earned doctorate by August 2025 in the appropriate field of study;
  • will demonstrate a research and teaching agenda appropriate for an R-1 institution.

Preference will be given to candidates who show one or more of the following:

  • a record of published scholarship;
  • teaching experience;
  • a capacity to mentor Ph.D. students;
  • potential to seek external research funding.
