Essential Functions

 

Job Summary

 

To provide specialized skills, management, leadership, and administration of the UTSA Athletic Medicine program. Assist in the overall administrative duties of the department. Responsible for assisting with the organization, management, and administration of the Athletic Training Program as well as the supervision, treatment, and rehabilitation of the UTSA men's and women's intercollegiate sports programs under University and NCAA policies and philosophies.

 

Core Responsibilities

 

• Provides athletic medicine services for team practices and competitions at home and on the road primarily for the sport of baseball.

• Assists in the overall administrative duties of the department.

• Oversees the Student Athletic Training program.

• Provides prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation for injuries to student-athletes.

• Maintains medical records for all assigned student-athletes.

• Designs and implements pre-habilitation and post-injury rehabilitation for the student-athletes.

• Coordinates Preparticipation Physical Evaluations (PPE) and medical paperwork for assigned athletes.

• Coordinates doctors' appointments for assigned student-athletes.

• Ability to work with various modalities in the athletic training room.

• Assists in the daily management of training room, including maintenance and storage of supplies and equipment.

• Assists in organizing and administration of the athletic training facility.

• Provides computer records of athletic injuries, illnesses, and their treatments.

• Assists with issues concerning insurance.

• Ensures all assigned tasks comply with University, American Athletic Conference, and NCAA rules.

• May supervise other trainer(s) and student athletic trainers.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

 

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any field of study.

• Current National Athletic Trainers Association Board Certification.

• Current State of Texas athletic training license or eligible to receive within 30 days of employment.

• Valid driver's license or ability to obtain one by the first day of employment.

• Four (4) years of experience in the athletic training field at any level.

• At the department's discretion a Master's degree and one (1) year experience in the athletic training field.

• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and standard office equipment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

• Master's degree from an accredited institution in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Athletic Training or Sports Medicine.

• Two to four (2-4) years of experience in a collegiate setting.

• Collegiate baseball experience.

• Experience with Neurocognitive baseline/post-concussion testing.

Working Conditions

 

• Possibility of working in dangerous conditions such as blood-borne pathogen-related areas.

• Possibility of working in inclement weather conditions (i.e., cold, heat, rain, etc.).

• Evening and weekend work will be required.

 

Physical Demands:

 

• Ability to engage in physically demanding, manual tasks.

• Experience with various forms of manual therapy and soft tissue techniques.

• Experience with injury tracking software.

 

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
