The Alvarez College of Business is UTSA's second-largest college and is home to more than 7,900 undergraduate and graduate students in 29-degree programs, supported by 205 tenure/tenure-track and fixed-term faculty and a dedicated cadre of staff. Department

The department has 19 tenured/tenure-track faculty members. Faculty members are actively engaged in research and support the existing doctoral, master, and undergraduate programs within the college. Untenured, tenure-track faculty teach three courses per year.

Position Summary

The position will support the department's need by supporting numerous college-wide and university programs in the actuarial science, statistics and data science, artificial intelligence areas—such as Ph.D. in Applied Statistics, M.S. in Statistics and Data Science, M.S. in Data Analytics, M.S. in Artificial Intelligence, and various undergraduate programs such as B.BA. in Actuarial Science and B.S. in Statistics and Data Science. This position aligns with the department, college, and university goals to support multidisciplinary programming and collaboration with the School of Data Science, College of Science, College of Engineering and Integrated Design, and the University College. The department's degree programs in Actuarial Science, Statistics and Data Science, along with the new BBA in Business Analytics degree program need faculty with strong statistical understanding and research interests that will complement and supplement the existing capabilities of the department.

Qualifications

• An earned (or expected before the Fall semester of 2025) Ph.D. in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a closely related area from an accredited university.
• Strong potential for engaging in high quality research in actuarial science, statistics, and data sciences for publishing in the highest-level journals.
• Expertise in one or more of the following areas: actuarial science, financial modeling, high-dimensional data inference and modeling, over-parametrized modeling with regularization, dimension reduction, variable selection, and survey sampling.
• Strong potential for getting external funding for research projects.
• A demonstrated ability in teaching effectively at the undergraduate, master's and Ph.D. levels in the areas of statistics and analytics.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Tenure is contingent upon Board of Regents approval. Candidates who have not completed their doctoral dissertation (ABDs) will be considered.

Salary

Salary and the supporting start-up package are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. UTSA offers an attractive package of benefits, including medical and dental coverage plus a choice of participation in the Teacher Retirement System or an Optional Retirement System.
