A.T. Still University's School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) is seeking a full-time exempt Research Associate on the Mesa, Arizona campus. This position will support scientific inquiry in osteopathic medical principles, bio-instrumentation development, long-term physiologic signal analysis, ultrasound image processing, and exploring novel methods for active instruction in medical education. This position supports work led by the Professor of Basic Medical Science and collaborates with colleagues from ATSU-SOMA and other departments and research institutions.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Support the design of experiments.

• Conduct research in medical technology and bio-instrumentation.

• Support instruction for osteopathic medical students.

• Maintain and optimize the use of research and teaching equipment.

• Fulfill collaborative, inter-professional research in bio-instrumentation and medical technology areas.

• Support research projects in medical ultrasound, including instruction in medical education.

• Maintain equipment.

• Conceive and design research experiments.

• Conduct scientific experiments and digital signal analyses.

• Support and contribute to the design of clinical studies: compiling protocols, data collection, documentation.

• Document research outcomes.

• Compile project reports and document outcomes.

• Support preparation and presentation for scientific meetings and conferences.

• Work on occasion with graduate engineering students conducting research at ATSU-SOMA.

• Support instruction of osteopathic medical students in Medical Skills and Osteopathic labs.

• Must be available for work during the hours assigned for student instruction or learning processes.

• Accept other duties assigned/needed to meet the goals and mission of ATSU-SOMA.

Education & Experience:

• MS/PhD in Biomedical Engineering, or related technical field.
• 1-2 years prior experience.
• Knowledge of and maintaining student and patient privacy (i.e. FERPA, HIPAA, etc.)

• Ability to follow proper OSHA and safety guidelines.

• Willingness to protect equipment.

• Strong communications skills, as well as computer literacy (MS Office Suite [i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint]) and accurate data entry skills.

• Excellent organizational skills to prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands.

• Accuracy and attention to detail.

• Willingness to be trained on the current learning management system and other technologies as required.

• Ability to establish and maintain a productive work schedule in accordance with the school's hours of operation.

• Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships by working cooperatively and collegially with others.

• Possess interpersonal and communication skills, including tact and diplomacy.

• Adhere to behaviors consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect by following.

• Ability to accept work directives from managers and supervisors in a respectful and cooperative manner.

• Flexibility with respect to the performance of other duties as needed/assigned for the school.

• Ability to design experiments using biostatistical analysis.

• Fluency in one or more coding and computer-interfacing programming environments (e.g., Matlab, C+, LabView, Python, etc.)

• Well-developed writing skills for scientific reports and manuscripts.

• Basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology.

• Bio-signal data analysis interface - Biopac MP36, and MP 150.

• Ultrasound system operation, Ultrasonix open-platform, GE Logiq systems, and Sonosite systems.

• Handheld ultrasound systems, Lumify, Butterfly, Clarius.

• Work with ultrasound flow phantom, elastography, and image QA phantoms.

• Work with digital data interfaces, like LabView serial-to-USB, FlexiForce Force sensor family, etc.
