POSITION:                                       CREW SUPERVISOR, PAINTERS

SALARY RANGE:                           R19   $56,828.70 - $80,241.16

LOCATION:                                     FCM- MAINTENANCE

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under direction of a supervisor in a state department, institution or agency, supervises a group of painters engaged in general painting work and works with tools and equipment common to the trade. Supervises staff and work activities. Prepares and signs official performance evaluations for subordinate staff; does other related duties as required. NOTE: The examples of work for this title are for illustrative purposes only. REQUIREMENTS: Inspects and determines painting work to be done and kinds and quantities of materials needed. Assigns work, gives written and/or oral instructions to painters and other employees assigned to the unit and supervises their work performance. Supervises and takes the lead in inspecting, cleaning, painting and repainting, by means of brush, rollers or spray of the interiors and exteriors of buildings, equipment, fixtures and various structures including work involved in washing walls and woodwork, scraping old and loose paint, puttying holes and cracks and patching and plastering walls. Supervises the work operations and/or functional programs and has responsibility for effectively recommending the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting and/or disciplining of employees. Supervises and takes the lead in mixing paints to proper consistency, matching of colors and adding coloring. Supervises and takes the lead in lettering new signs and re-lettering old signs. Supervises the erecting and use of scaffolding and rigging and sees that painting work areas are kept in an orderly, safe condition. Orders, stores, safeguards, issues, records and supervises use of paints, stains, varnishes, enamels, lacquers, oils, brushes, ladders, drop cloths and other equipment. Prepares reports and records of personnel, equipment, materials, supplies, costs, time and work completed. May be required to undergo fire training classes.

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience in work involving the painting and repainting of the interior and exterior of buildings and other structures using brush, roller and spray methods.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of problems and procedures of inspecting and planning large painting projects. Knowledge of materials, equipment and methods used in preparing surfaces for painting and methods used in mixing paints to the correct consistency and matching and adding colors. Ability to give written and or oral directions to painters and other employees assigned to painting work and to supervise their work performance. Ability to supervise and take the lead in doing work involved in inspection, cleaning, painting, and repainting of interiors and exteriors of buildings, equipment, fixtures and other structures including inspection, cleaning, preparing, painting and repainting; the washing of walls and woodwork, the scraping of old and loose paint and the puttying of holes and patching and plastering of walls. Ability to supervise assigned staff and plan, organize and implement projects within the unit. Ability to supervise and take the lead in mixing paints, matching colors and adding coloring materials to paints. Ability to do lettering. Ability to maintain painting areas in an orderly, safe condition and see that scaffolding and rigging are properly erected and used. Ability to make reports. Ability to maintain records of personnel, materials, equipment, supplies, time, costs and work completed. Ability to order, store, safeguard, issue, record and supervise the proper use of paints, stains, varnishes, enamels, lacquers, oils, brushes, ladders, drop cloths and other equipment, materials and supplies. Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units. Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication. LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey.
