Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design (KCEID)

The Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design (KCEID) is home to more than 4,300 undergraduate and graduate students in 9 undergraduate, 16 Masters, and 6 PhD degree programs. The college is supported by over 140 tenure/tenure-track and fixed-term faculty and a dedicated cadre of staff. The School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, and Construction Management

The School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, and Construction Management (CECM) consists of two Divisions: Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE); and Construction Science and Management (CSM). CECM offers two undergraduate degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Construction Science and Management. The B.S. degree in Civil Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, while the Construction Science and Management B.S. program is accredited by the https://www.acce-hq.org/ (ACCE). At the graduate level, CECM provides a Master of Civil Engineering degree, a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering, a Master of Science degree in Facility Management (online), a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Civil Engineering, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Environmental Science and Engineering. The school also offers a Graduate Certificate in Construction Engineering, Science and Management, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Facility Management. The PhD in Civil Engineering degree includes a track in construction science and management which allow CSM to pursue doctoral degrees. The CECM School currently has 25 full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty, 3 full-time non-tenure-track faculty, and an enrollment of 785 undergraduate students, 84 master's students, and 71 PhD students.

Position Summary

The https://ceid.utsa.edu/civil-environmental-construction-management/at https://www.utsa.edu/ is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Construction Science and Management or related disciplines, beginning in August 2025.

The ideal candidate will spearhead the development of cutting-edge research initiatives and educational content that leverage AI to solve complex, real-world challenges in construction and engineering. This individual should have advanced expertise in machine learning, data science, and a wide range of AI-driven applications, including generative AI, predictive modeling, robotics, computer vision, digital twin technology, and immersive technologies like virtual, augmented, and mixed reality. A strong commitment to supporting the educational needs of all populations is essential, as well as actively contributing to the University's mission as a thriving Hispanic Serving Institution and a national model for student success.

Key responsibilities include designing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in construction science and management, conducting impactful research in applied AI, securing external research funding, and making meaningful service contributions to the University, construction industry, and professional communities. Candidates should demonstrate a clear, strategic research agenda, actively pursue external funding opportunities, cultivate professional development for students, and contribute to the University's ongoing growth and evolution.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• A Ph.D. in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related disciplines. If the candidate is in the process of completing their doctoral dissertation (ABD), they must complete all requirements for their degree upon time of hire.
• Ability and willingness to teach courses in Construction Science and Management at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• A proven record of recent peer-reviewed publications.
• Research interest and expertise in Artificial Intelligence.
• Strong computer programming knowledge and skills (e.g. Python, R, C++).
• The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of first generation and low-income students and be committed to assisting the University's commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution.

Preferred Qualifications

• A demonstrated desire to provide service to the university, community, or profession through leadership in the construction science and management field.
• Recent evidence of capability to obtain external research funds.
• Industry experience.
