About the Position:
The Office of Disability Support Services (DSS) strives to increase access and retention for students with permanent and temporary disabilities by ensuring equitable treatment in all aspects of campus life. The program acts as a catalyst and agent for compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations mandating equal opportunity and access for person with disabilities. Our office provides co-curricular and academically related services which empower students with disabilities to achieve academic and personal self-determination. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Associate Director of Student Support, Disability Support Services (Administrator II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under the general direction of the Director of DSS, the Associate Director (AD) of Student Support oversees, directs, and supervises the Disability Management Specialists and overall student experience for students registered with the department, which includes supervision of the Disability Management and Housing Accommodations Specialist and the Programs and Outreach Specialist. The AD provides the Director with critical information and feedback on core matters related to student success such as complex student accommodation requests, accessibility concerns, appeals, and grievances. The AD assists with developing, implementing, and assessing the vision, purpose, aims, objectives, and strategies for department programs and services. In addition, the AD assists with the planning, implementation, assessment and improvements of department experiences for students, staff, and faculty with an emphasis on student development, satisfaction, and retention. The AD provides leadership and oversight for human resources operations within the functional areas of oversight, including recruitments, labor relations, evaluations and staff training as related to the Disability Management Specialists, including the Disability Management and Housing Accommodations Specialist and the Programs and Outreach Specialist. The AD will also oversee DSS outreach, programming and retention efforts which include the department's social media promotions and assessment. The AD will assist with designing and analyzing learning outcomes, coordinating student and faculty satisfaction surveys and campus-wide assessments regarding specialist, programming, general department services, as well as benchmarking. Strategizes and implements best practices in the design, development, and operations of services for their areas of supervision. Responsible for oversight of resources and programs requiring Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. Works closely with the Director on compliance concerns like coordinating a departmental response and providing case management for students with complex disability-related accessibility needs. The AD will serve as the first review for student accommodation appeals and complaints related to their student experience with the department. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in social science or related field. Five years of experience in a leadership position. Strong organization and problem-solving skills. Ability to problem solve and provide conflict resolution.

Demonstrated supervisory and training experience. Demonstrated customer service skills and experience training and implementing these skills with staff. Self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic. Understanding of ethical and legal issues related to students with disabilities and the ability to lead by example. Possesses computer skills necessary for word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, analysis software, internet, list serves, and electronic mail. Strong oral and written communication skills to write reports and communicate with staff, the campus community, vendors, and other partners.
Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and the overall organization.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
