Job Summary:
At PLNU, the Student Success Counselor plays a key role in guiding students through their academic journey, with a strong focus on enhancing retention and graduation rates. This position provides personalized academic advising and support to a diverse caseload of adult, graduate, and professional students, helping them achieve success in alignment with the university's mission and goals. As part of a collaborative team, this role requires both teamwork and the ability to work independently.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
Salary:
Pay Rate: $25.00 - $26.00 per hour

Job Description:
What we are looking for:
• Broad understanding of higher education services, including financial aid, registration processes, and retention strategies
• Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational abilities
• Administrative expertise with strong attention to detail
• Proficiency with data management, reporting, and technological tools
• Ability to work effectively with diverse groups
• Skilled in maintaining professional, collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and students
What you will be doing:
• Advise students on academic progress, degree planning, personal wellness, and student services
• Monitor struggling students and follow up with them at critical points in their academic journey
• Keep track of student retention and proactively reach out to students to help them persist toward their academic goals
• Coordinate with Student Financial Services, Enrollment/Admissions, and Academics to address student concerns
• Follow a specified connect strategy for future, new, and continuing students
• Support campus-wide activities such as orientation and graduation
• Apply affirmation, support, and advocacy in academic counseling and outreach, considering the impact of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the University's student population
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required
• 1-2 years of experience in academic advising or a related field preferred
• Exceptional communication skills across platforms (phone, email, virtual, and in-person)
• Demonstrated ability to build rapport with diverse student populations and other departments within the university
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail and follow-through
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, exercising professional judgment in sensitive situations
