This position will teach 15 load hours per semester of primarily freshman and sophomore level Computer Science courses, serve on college committees, and engage in course and program development.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Will provide 15 credit hours of instruction per semester with a primary teaching load in freshman and sophomore level Computer Science courses and other common business course.
  • Work collaboratively to develop appropriate curriculum. Identify program learning outcomes, course alignment within programs, and program-level assessment, evaluation, and revision.
  • The development and delivery of courses, including synchronous, asynchronous, online and in-person classes on campus
    • Identification of student learning outcomes
    • Design of learning experiences that are positive and course-appropriate and which support student achievement and success
    • Use of the college’s learning management system (Canvas) to post course information, attendance and participation, and grades
    • Assuring that courses are accessible for all students enrolled
    • Use of the San Juan College Effective Teaching Framework
  • Evaluate student learning and achievement at the course, program, and institutional level within a regular cycle of reporting and results sharing, including providing assessment information for accreditation purposes. Develop and execute an Effective Teaching Assessment Plan annually.
  • Responsibilities will also include organizing and maintaining curricula in Computer Science; developing and revising instructional materials as appropriate; keeping student records; assisting in recommending and orienting part-time faculty; and working with college councils and committees as assigned and other duties as assigned by the Dean.
  • Maintain a minimum of five student office hours posted per week during the academic year. Be available outside of posted office hours to assist students, as needed.
  • Participate in other college-related assignments for up to five hours per week per academic term, including committee work, special projects, curriculum review, etc.
  • Participate in professional development activities to remain current in the discipline.  This may include:
    • attending professional conferences
    • participating in San Juan College-sponsored on-campus or online faculty development opportunities.
    • participate in an annual review of work that includes goal setting and evaluation of accomplishments.
  • Coordinate with other faculty to teach or contribute at community Career Pathways events and programs for prospective students, including in the summer.
  • Will teach at the satellite campuses as needed. May be required to teach Early College High School and Dual Credit Students. May be required to teach day, evening and weekends.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or in a related field required, with 18 graduate hours in Computer Science.

 

  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the objectives and functions of the position in order to instruct students, usually interpreted to require two to three years of related experience.
