Salary Range: Up to $84,000/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours: 40 hours per week, exempt.

Essential Functions

Job Summary

Under limited supervision, responsible for the design, installation, testing, administration, and documentation of enterprise network hardware, software, shared components and networking protocols.

Core Responsibilities

• Plans and designs implementation of new network hardware, technologies, and applications. Documents processes, procedure, and proposes improvements.
• Architects, manages, tests and provides support to multiple enterprise-wide network infrastructure environments.
• Designs, installs, and supports enterprise-wide network components, technologies and related infrastructure, e.g., Wireless, WAN, LAN, VPN, IP addressing.
• Architects and implements security for network protection and client access.
• Analyzes network requirements from functional specifications.
• Develops and maintains hardware and software documentation standards in enterprise data center environment.
• Consults on network design; coordinates required changes to campus network infrastructure.
• Schedules and performs installation and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established Information Technology policies and procedures.
• Monitors and tunes the network to achieve optimum performance levels.
• Recognizes and troubleshoots problems with network hardware and software.
• Ensures configuration recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups.
• Conducts routine hardware and software audits of network devices to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
• Develops and maintains a comprehensive network hardware and software configuration database or library of all supporting documentation.
• Assists with special projects, as needed.
• Complies with all state and university policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from accredited institution.
• Technical training and/or experience may be substituted for a degree on a year for year basis.
• Four (4) years of experience in a networking and communications environment.
• Intermediate knowledge of common network hardware and cabling including Ethernet, Router, Switches, Wireless access points and other associate hardware.
• Intermediate understanding of IP Networking, Routing, Switching and Network Operating Systems (e.g., IOS, JunOS, including configuration, processes, files and I/O systems; networking services and common routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, Static).

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

• Ability to implement change control and configuration management, high availability systems, structured design and support methodologies.
• Ability to perform complex performance analysis of network systems and other related components.
• Ability to program network and system support tasks in Python, Perl, batch/shell, or other general purpose programming language.

Working Conditions

Working Environment:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events.
• Occasional after-hours and weekend work may be required.

Physical Demands:

• Medium: Up to 50lbs - Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

This position will require working both remotely in Texas and on campus (approximately five or more days on campus per month). Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
