San Juan College is seeking a well-qualified and highly motivated individual to apply to this full-time, twelve-month position of Instructor of Physical Therapist Assistant Program.

Essential Duties

 

  • Actively model the core values of the college and the profession.

 

  • Initiate, adopt, evaluate, and uphold academic regulations specific to the program and compatible with institutional policies, procedures, and practices.

 

  • Teaching courses (face-to-face and/or online/hybrid) in the area of expertise, as required by the program and institution (may include teaching in the evenings and on weekends)

 

  • Foster an educational environment that is conducive to learning, respect, integrity, teamwork, and professionalism.

 

  • Manages the learning environment by keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and administering academic and attendance policies.

 

  • Create lesson plans. Provide direct classroom and laboratory instruction and office hours as assigned.

 

  • Assess student work in a timely fashion and convey feedback to students.

 

  • Promotes student success by showing flexibility in style and work schedule as well as exhibiting a passion for teaching and engaging students in the learning process.

 

  • Develop, review, and revise the curriculum with input from other PTA faculty and appropriate communities of interest.

 

  • Maintain currency in the area of expertise by participating in scholarship (e.g., scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning) as defined by CAPTE.

 

  • Provide outstanding customer service to all constituencies and partners of the college.

 

  • Strong commitment to inclusivity and diversity, and ability to interact effectively with diverse cultural and ethnic groups.

 

  • Attend departmental meetings, graduation ceremonies, and other college meetings or events, as required.

 

  • Perform program assessment activities as directed.

 

  • Participate in institutional or professional service.

 

  • Perform all responsibilities in accordance with State and Federal regulations as well as College policies and procedures.

Qualifications

 

  • Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant or Physical Therapy program is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred or applicant must be willing to pursue this degree and complete it within 3-5 years from date of hire. 

 

  • Hold an active, unrestricted license to practice as a PT or PTA in New Mexico and keeping license current on an annual basis by attending seminars, continuing education, book review, etc.

 

  • Minimum of three years of full-time (or equivalent) post-licensure clinical practice in physical therapy

 

  •  Contemporary expertise in the assigned teaching areas

 

 Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of educational theory and methodology.

 

  • Demonstrated evidence of online teaching effectiveness.
