Salary Range: Up to $44,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
Hours: up to 40 hours per week, non-exempt.

Essential Functions
Job Summary
To provide accurate computer-aided speech-to-text service for class lectures, discussions, announcements, recordings, meetings, and related academic/UTSA events to facilitate communication access and equal opportunity for deaf/hard of hearing students registered in Student Disability Services.
Responsible for providing speech-to-text services for deaf/hard of hearing students registered in Student Disability Services.
Core Responsibilities
• Provides real-time meaning for meaning captioning using Instant Text Software for class lectures, discussions, announcements, conversations, meetings, events, and other spoken word situations using computer aided technology for students who are deaf/hard of hearing and who are registered with Student Disability Services.
• Accurately transcribes verbal information and video materials as needed in both academic and UTSA events as assigned.
• Collaborates with faculty and college departments regarding captioning services and relevant concepts to better facilitate access for deaf/hard of hearing students.
• Works effectively in teams with other captionists.
• Prepares for classes by reviewing syllabi, notes, text from Canvas or professor's website and by developing a comprehensive glossary for a particular subject and/or class.
• Assist Coordinator with new semester meetings, emails, updates, Canvas access for part-time employees, and Academic Innovation notification for Asynchronous classes.
• Collaborate with the Coordinator, DHHS scheduling, updates, additional requests for DHH services, and substitute requests on the calendars and AIM Database.
• Collaborate with the Coordinator, DHHS distributing and maintaining equipment (i.e. laptops, removal of equipment forms, software, and compliance with policies and procedures)
• Collaborate with the Coordinator, DHHS with all preparation materials needed for part-time captionists, new hire interviews and training, scheduling of mentor sessions, update and maintain online training modules and maintain mentor program.
• Reports any student related concerns to the Coordinator, DHHS.
• Keep Coordinator up-to-date on all captioning related tasks and projects.
• Participates in department and division-wide quality improvement activities, trainings and meetings as necessary.
• Provide support to the department by assisting with some administrative tasks as needed.
• Support the department during high-demand periods by collecting and managing data to ensure timely dissemination of accessibility notifications.
• Assist with alternate format needs of the department.
• Additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience using computers and word processing software to type documents.
• Pass typing test with 75 wpm, high accuracy, and limited errors.
• Proficiency in the use of English grammar, spelling and auditory listening skills.
• Ability to quickly understand and condense information while typing.
• This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
• Associates degree or equivalent college hours from an accredited institution.
• One-year experience as a part time captionist/transcriptionist using Instant Text Software in the Student Disability Services Office.
• Pass typing test with 80 wpm with 95% accuracy.
• Successfully complete the online training program provided by Student Disability Services Office.
• Extensive experience using One Drive, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Microsoft 365, and Excel.
• Experience using virtual meeting platforms (i.e. Zoom, Panopto, and TEAMS).
