Essential Functions

 

Job Summary

 

The UTSA Fostering Futures Program (FFP) works with students who have a history of foster care to increase student retention and graduation rates. By taking a holistic approach, the Program Manager (Campus Coach) engages students in critical services offered by the Fostering Futures Program (FFP), build rapport and connect students to campus and community resources, supporting their pathways to graduation. Collaborating closely with the Associate Director and other FFP Program Managers (Campus Coaches) to facilitate a transition from admission to registration and engagement with the Program. This role reports to the Associate Director.

 

Core Responsibilities

 

• In conjunction with other FFP staff, this position is responsible for engaging with perspective as well as taking a holistic approach with currently enrolled undergraduate UTSA students with a history of foster care regarding the tuition and fee waiver, completing intake screenings, strengths and needs assessments, referrals for wrap around services, and building relationships for continued rapport building and follow up with students.

• Demonstrates appropriate and positive relationship-building skills with youth, staff, and community supporters.

• Utilizes skills and tools from the Coach certification training when engaging with students.

• Responsible for monitoring and assessing undergraduate retention rates, persistence predictions, and academic intervention planning for assigned workload.

• Interprets specific FFP and UTSA requirements for students, campus champions, and Student Success staff.

• Develop a working knowledge of tuition and fee waivers, federal Education and Training Voucher (ETV) program, FAFSA, and any other foster care specific education funding.

• In collaboration with peer Program Managers and leadership, utilize data collected from the Strengths and Needs assessments to inform the creation and implementation of Fall/Spring workshop programs and Summer programming.

• Responsible for maintaining and utilizing a UTSA One Card to issue Emergency Funds.

• Collaborate with units in the Division of Student Success and champions across other departments/colleges to network for appropriate student referrals.

• With the student's consent, participates in meetings with campus and/or community champions to advocate for the educational benefit and/or overall wellbeing of the student.

• Networks with Campus Based Support Program staff across the Bexar County Fostering Educational Success pilot.

• Manages the FFP pantry by promoting pantry access, tracking needs and requests of students, managing inventory, and providing information regularly to the Associate Director on needs for purchasing inventory.

• Provides presentations to campus and community champions specific to the FFP in various modalities.

• Evaluates program activities and makes recommendations for changes and enhancements to ensure the program evolves as necessary to continue to meet the FFP mission.

• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

 

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

• Three (3) years of relevant experience engaging with youth and young adults through specialized programming.

• Must have knowledge of computers with standard business software and all standard office equipment.

• Follow UTSA and FFP policies relating to information security, FERPA, and confidentiality.

• Must be able to engage effectively with young adults who have experienced trauma.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

• Master's degree in human services, psychology, sociology, higher education, or related field.

• Be a mandated reporter of child abuse and neglect to the Department of Family and Protective Services. Must be trained in recognizing and responding to child abuse and neglect.

• Experience working with child welfare systems, former foster youth, and at-risk youth populations.

• Two to three years of caseload management.

• Experience utilizing Salesforce, Civitas, or other large databases with experience in reporting.

• Expertise in utilizing relevant social media and content creation tools.

• Preference to applicants who have a history of foster care.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

• Exhibit proficiency in public, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

• Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing.

• Demonstrated independent decision-making and problem-solving ability.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Demands:

 

• Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary, if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.

• Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.

 

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
