POSITION: MENTORING & FIELD-BASED LEARNING COORDINATOR

LOCATION: SOCIOLOGY & SOCIAL WORK

JOB SUMMARY: New Jersey City University is seeking a detail-oriented professional with strong organizational skills to join its Title V Grant team. NJCU was recently awarded $3 million to conduct a series of initiatives that are intended to increase the enrollment, retention and graduation rate of Latino and low-income graduate students over a 5-year period.

The successful candidate will report to the Director of Career & Professional Development and be motivated to work with diverse faculty, staff and professionals in bringing about these improvements. Schedule flexibility and some travel are required.

The position will be filled as soon as possible and extend through April 2027, contingent on available funding.

DUTIES:

  • Mentor graduate students throughout their advanced-degree programs
  • Research, identify & compile an inventory of internship opportunities
  • Develop an orientation program for students & training program for mentors
  • Liaise with academic departments & clinical-placement sites
  • Optimize the placement of students in internships and field-based learning opportunities
  • Coordinate the evaluation of interns working in the field with academic & clinical supervisors
  • Evaluate clinical-placement sites
  • Collect and manage project-related data & student outcomes
  • Prepare clear & accurate reports on interns & clinical-placement sites
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state & institutional regulations, in alignment with the University’s mission
  • Additional grant-related work, as required

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology or related field.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one (1) year experience in a diverse work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interact diplomatically with individuals at all levels
  • Excellent decision-making skills and personal integrity
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and other productivity platforms

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s degree in a Social Science, counseling or related field
  • Understanding of federal, state, or local regulatory compliance
