Salary Range: Up to $43,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours: up to 40 hours per week, exempt.

Essential Functions

Job Summary

Supports the academic and professional development of Honors College students pursuing careers in the health professions. This includes specialized advising on pre-health academic pathways, integration of Honors curriculum with professional school requirements, guidance on experiential opportunities, and career coaching tailored to the unique goals and aspirations of high-achieving students. Advise, mentor, and coach Honors College students as they navigate their academic journey and prepare competitive applications for health profession programs.

Core Responsibilities

• Participates in new student orientation and on-boarding with the Honors Academic Counseling Team, with a focus on introducing pre-health pathways.
• Advises, guides, and mentors Honors College students in Honors curriculum completion, and pre-health profession pathways and prerequisites.
• Assists students in finding, and the preparation of, application materials for experiential learning, including internships, service learning, shadowing, study abroad, and undergraduate research.
• Collaborates with the University Health Professions advising, faculty, departments, and Career Services for enhanced advising and program support.
• Assists in organizing and executing events, workshops, and panels on pre-health topics.
• Conducts regular audits and academic progress checks to track Honors student satisfactory progress and maintains proactive communication with advisees regarding both Honors and pre-health professions progress.
• Tracks relevant retention, persistence, and graduation data regarding Honors students.
• Maintains and records regular communication with Honors students, community and campus partners.
• Participates in campus, community service, and extracurricular events for Honors, virtually and/or in person as appropriate, which may include evening and weekend event.
• Assists in designing and delivering programming to encourage student participation in areas of Honors education.
• Develops and maintains expertise in health professions advising, especially related to high-achieving students.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Interviews students for Honors programs.
• Serves on Honors committee and represents Honors in university committees.
Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution in an academic discipline.
• Two (2) years of experience working with college students in an advising, program coordination, or program management capacity.
• This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution in an academic discipline.
• Experience with Honors education at the collegiate level.
• Experience with the administration of one or more of the following areas: undergraduate admissions, study abroad, internship placement, student event planning and execution, college peer-to-peer development programs, undergraduate research, service learning, or similar student development areas.
• Experience educating/teaching students in high school or higher education.
• Experience with Banner or similar academic data management systems.
• Experience with honors programs, colleges, or students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills. High level of computer literacy and technical skills, especially Microsoft Office suite. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills. Highly collaborative. Keen attention to detail and follow-through.
• Ability to advise using high-impact educational practices.
• String data tracking and assessment proficiency.
• Creative and innovative approach to designing, implementing, and assessing student development/advising programming.

Working Conditions

• Fast paced environment with high student contact (in-person and virtual).
• Some evening and weekend work required, particularly during major program events.
• Primary in-office position, with some limited virtual work.
• Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events.

Physical Demands:

• Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
• Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
