El Camino College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to join its Adaptive Physical Education team. Instruction will be in adapted physical education courses with emphasis in adapted swimming, weight lifting and other activities. Faculty assignments may include morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours. Dual enrollment, distance education, on-line or hybrid with required distance education certification assignments are voluntary. For faculty who are interested in teaching online or hybrid courses, completion of El Camino College's distance education certification process is required or submission of a waiver with evidence of prior certification to develop and teach quality online courses.

 

The position requires participation in a variety of campus and division activities such as department meetings, committee meetings, student activities, and office hours.

 

The position requires development/review of curriculum and assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services.

 

Applicants should demonstrate experience examining and remediating their instruction, interactions, and/or practices to more effectively engage and support diverse students.

 

Faculty may participate in initiatives set forth by the College that support students to achieve their educational goals through collaborations with employers, advisory committees, industry/trade groups, universities, high schools, or other partnerships with related instructional disciplines.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adapted physical education, AND fifteen (15) semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of disability; OR

 

Bachelor's in in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adapted physical education AND a Master's in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy AND fifteen (15) semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of disability; OR

 

The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualification(s) as stated on this announcement must complete the Request For Equivalency Form as part of the application process to explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR

 

Valid California community college instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355); AND

 

Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socio-economic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.

 

A teaching demonstration will be required by those candidates selected to interview.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated successful university, community college or high school teaching experience.

Demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods.

Demonstrated ability to contribute to a team environment as an instructor working in a shared governance environment.

Ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles.

SALARY

The starting salary ranges from $86,552 -$118,882 annually depending on education and experience.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Contract shall be for a full-time tenure-track teaching assignment for the 2026-2027 academic year, beginning in August. Offer and acceptance of employment is subject to verification of all information provided on the employment application, credential(s), and transcripts. Candidates selected for employment must agree to be fingerprinted, submit Certificate of Completion of the Tuberculosis Risk Assessment and/or Examination, provide proof of eligibility for employment in the United States, and present a valid Social Security card upon hire.

INTERVIEW EXPENSES

Individuals identified for FINAL interviews are eligible to have expenses paid. Reimbursement will be limited to economy airfare (to and from point of origin) and for meals and lodging. The maximum allocated for meals, lodging and transportation is $600. Finalists must complete and submit a W-9 Form and Human Resource's "Interview Expense Reimbursement Form" and include appropriate support documentation to receive the allowable reimbursement amount.

 

BENEFIT HIGHLIGHTS

 

Retirement

Full-time employees contribute a percentage of their regular salary to either the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) or to the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security. Upon termination, STRS or PERS retirement contributions may be withdrawn in full, plus accumulated interest. Various benefit options are available for employees upon retirement.
