The UBR Pathways Navigator is responsible for ensuring success in meeting the Upward Bound Rural Program’s purpose and objectives. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work effectively with target schools’ personnel and administrations. 
  • Possess strong time management skills to effectively schedule workshops and events. 
  • Knowledge of academic advising and college, career, financial aid, and economic literacy activities as indicated on their Individual Academic and Service Plans. 
  • Ability to document services provided to UBR participants. 
  • Ability to use electronic technology such as PC’s, copiers, tablets, and mobile WI-FI hot spots.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Enrolls participants by informing the community and schools about the Upward Bound Rural program through the use of public service announcements, flyers, and presentations.
  • Performs academic needs assessment and creates a personalized Individual Service Plan for each student member.
  • Assists in the selection of program participants and conducts student interviews.
  • Implements program objectives to deliver academic and supportive services to a cohort of 50 participants enrolled in the target high schools: George West, Sinton, and Odem.
  • Plans and supervises extracurricular activities such as university campus tours, educational seminars, and cultural events. 
  • Establishes and maintains contact with key personnel at baccalaureate institutions. 
  • Aids youth in gaining admission to secondary and post-secondary institutions.
  • Monitors student progress through assessment of report cards and encourages students to consider a Rigorous Secondary Program of Study by the time they graduate. 
  • Provides tutoring opportunities for participants. 
  • Participation in state, regional, and other training opportunities. 
  • Utilizes various computer programs such as Microsoft Office 365, Cougar Den, Blumen, Word, PowerPoint, etc. 
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree required in education, counseling, social work, liberal arts, higher education administration, STEM fields, or related fields. Minimum of three (3) years of appropriate and relevant professional experience working for a TRIO federal program or similar related program/project serving low-income and potential first-generation college students (grades 9-12).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience providing academic advising services and college, career, financial aid, and economic literacy information. Experience advising and assisting low-income and potential first-generation college students (12th graders) with the college admissions and financial aid process on an individual and group basis. Professional or personal experience overcoming barriers similar to those facing project participants. Effective written and oral communication skills; TRIO Alum.

Supplemental Information
Other Duties:

Will participate in Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).

Helps prepare Annual Performance Report for submission.

Travel Requirements: 

Must have own transportation, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance to travel to other locations, including target area schools, and to attend meetings/trainings. 

Environment:

Office & school campus environments with some work performed outdoors during program-related events on evenings and weekends.
