Essential Functions:

The Coordinator of Accessibility Services supports Coastal Bend College’s commitment to student success and equitable access by ensuring compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Coordinator provides vision, leadership, and operational oversight for accessibility services.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the intake process for accommodation requests, including review, evaluation, and documentation (i.e., medical, psychological, and educational) to determine appropriate academic accommodations.  
  • Advises the Dean of Student Affairs & Accessibility and administration on compliance issues, risk mitigation strategies, and evolving best practices related to disability law and accessibility standards.
  • Provides consultation and training for instructional deans, faculty coordinators, and faculty on federal mandates to ensure that all programs are accessible and that students receive reasonable accommodations. 
    • Manages the coordination of services available to students with disabilities (e.g., ancillary aids and supports, alternative media, assistive technology, note-taking, test accommodations, tutoring, counseling, etc.). 
  • Collaborates with Information Technology and academic departments to promote digital accessibility of course materials, learning management systems, and online content.
  • Engages with faculty and staff to increase awareness of accessibility standards, rights under the ADA, and the importance of creating inclusive environments.
  • Monitors implementation of approved accommodations and tracks service delivery to ensure compliance.
  • Oversees the procurement and maintenance of a variety of adaptive equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Affairs and Accessibility.
     
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, psychology, social work, special education, or a related field.

Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to serving people with disabilities in post-secondary education. Working knowledge of accommodations for students in various settings. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited university in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, psychology, social work, special education, or a related field. 

At least five (5) years of professional experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a postsecondary setting.

Training in and demonstrated ability to interpret educational, psychological, and medical documentation for students with varied learning, behavioral, physical, and medical disabilities.

Travel Requirements:

Travel is required for this position. Must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance to travel to other CBC locations. A personal vehicle is required if a CBC vehicle is not available. We encourage carpooling with other CBC employees.

Environment:

Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
