Essential Functions:

Coastal Bend College is seeking a dynamic and community-driven professional to serve as the Cougar Active Life Coordinator. This position is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of campus-based recreation and wellness programming, including the Cougar Community Sports initiatives and game day family events. 

This role is highly visible and relationship-driven, serving as a vital connection between Coastal Bend College and the surrounding communities. The Cougar Active Life Coordinator will lead inclusive, family-friendly programming that promotes health and wellness, strengthens community ties, and enhances institutional visibility and enrollment awareness.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Program Administration & Coordination

  • Plan, organize, and oversee recreation programs including intramurals, fitness initiatives, and community leagues (pickleball, basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, kickball, cornhole, etc.).
  • Develop seasonal schedules, league formats, age divisions, and registration timelines.
  • Manage day-to-day operations and scheduling of recreation facilities to ensure effective utilization.
  • Coordinate league operations, including team assignments, schedules, standings, and program evaluations.
  • Host and execute a minimum of twenty (20) on-campus community engagement events per semester.
  • Coordinate and execute pregame/in-game events and promotions for community members and youth during Coastal Bend College home athletic contests.

Community Engagement & Special Events

  • Plan and execute family and community-focused events centered around soccer, baseball, and softball.
  • Organize evening and weekend programming to maximize participation.
  • Serve as a visible representative of Coastal Bend College during events and outreach initiatives.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with local schools, municipalities, youth organizations, and community groups.
  • Utilize recreational programming to support enrollment awareness and promote the College.

Facility Operations & Risk Management

  • Oversee daily operations of recreation facilities, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
  • Develop and enforce facility policies, procedures, and participants to conduct standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities and equipment; ensure maintenance and safety compliance.
  • Implement risk management practices including waivers, safety procedures, and emergency response protocols.

Staff & Volunteer Oversight

  • Recruit, train, and supervise student workers, officials, and event staff.
  • Coordinate volunteers and serve as on-site supervisor during programming.
  • Foster a positive, service-oriented team culture focused on student and community engagement.

Financial & Administrative Management

  • Assist with budget development, monitoring, and resource allocation.
  • Track participation, revenues, and expenses associated with programs and events.
  • Ensure proper collection and documentation of registration and participation fees.
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with institutional policies and applicable regulations.

Marketing, Communications & Outreach

  • Collaborate with Athletics and Marketing to promote programs, events, and services.
  • Support and drive social media engagement, including promotions, highlights, and community interaction.
  • Ensure all communications align with Coastal Bend College branding and strategic goals.

Assessment & Institutional Support

  • Collect and analyze participation data and community feedback.
  • Prepare reports evaluating program effectiveness, financial performance, and community impact.
  • Support institutional events such as student orientations, convocations, and commencements.
  • Participate in strategic planning, assessment processes, and continuous program improvement.
  • Serve on committees and complete additional duties as assigned.

  • Ability to lead, supervise, and motivate staff and student workers.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and priorities.

  • Ability to build relationships with diverse populations and community stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital platforms for communication, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Ability to assess program outcomes and implement data-driven improvements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree required; bachelor's degree preferred (Kinesiology, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field).

Experience coordinating recreation programs or community-based sports activities.

Demonstrated ability to engage and work with diverse populations.

Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a community college or higher education setting.

Experience supervising student employees or volunteers.

Familiarity with budget tracking and program assessment.

CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).

Supplemental Information
Travel Requirements:

Travel to other college sites, functions, and conferences may be required.

Environment:

Regular evening and weekend work is required.

A combination of indoor and outdoor work environments.

Physical demands include standing, walking, and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs).

Moderate noise levels consistent with recreation and event settings.
