BASIC FUNCTION:
This Student Services Advisor position is assigned to the First Year Experience (FYE) Program which assists incoming students with their transition from high school to college by offering academic and transfer counseling, financial aid assistance, and integrative learning communities. FYE serves as the first point of contact for campus resources, academic support, and student success programs offered on campus. The FYE program is a vibrant environment serving over two thousand new and continuing students, parents and faculty.
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of responsible duties involving direct and purposeful contact with students in an assigned area such as career or education planning, job placement, financial aid, admissions and records or EOP&S; provide specialized advisement and other services to individual students in assigned specialty area.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Provide specialized advisement and paraprofessional services to students in specialty field such as career or education planning, job placement, admissions and records, Financial Aid, Extended Opportunities and Services (EOP&S) or other assigned area.
Interview individual students to determine program eligibility and obtain information required to develop student educational, financial and career plans.
Analyze student data and certify eligibility for program participation as required; interpret, apply and explain complex rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Any combination of equivalent to: two years of college course work and three years of increasingly responsible experience in a student services or related field.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Comfortable working in a diverse environment, especially with those who may identify differently or have a different background.
Familiar with technologies useful for communication, database management, and website maintenance and updates.

Knowledge/Areas of Expertise:
Specialized functions, operation and activities in an assigned student advisement area.
Interview techniques.
Abilities/Skills:
Provide specialized paraprofessional duties and advisement to students in a specialty field.
Assess student needs and interests and develop viable plans and alternatives.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Typical office setting.
Extensive computer work.
Long periods of standing and sitting.
Direct contact with students with various health conditions (AIDS, HIV, Hepatitis, etc.)
CLOSING DATE: TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 8, 2026 AT 3:00 P.M.
SALARY: Starting salary is $6,317.08 per month. Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Salary increases are granted on the first day of the month following each year of service, until Step F is reached ($8,120.80 monthly).
Employees contribute 8% of their earnings toward the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full-time, twelve-month classified position subject to a probationary period. The standard work week is 40 hours of scheduled duty per week of not more than five consecutive workdays. Working hours will be in-person, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Schedule may vary to include hours outside of the normal work schedule and weekends depending on operational need.

Summer Work Hours
During the summer, employees work eight 32-hour work weeks with full pay.
