The https://engineering.asu.edu/ at https://www.asu.edu/ (ASU) seek an individual for the position of Teaching Professor (all ranks) in our recently established School of Integrated Engineering at the ASU West Valley campus in west Phoenix, Arizona. A Ph.D. in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering education or related discipline is required, and industry experience is preferred.
At ASU, we are transforming engineering education with innovative models and modalities to make excellent education more accessible. As a part of this process, we created the School of Integrated Engineering in 2024, which offers degrees that holistically integrate engineering content and mindsets with other disciplines. We currently offer Engineering Science degrees with concentrations in Business and Microelectronics, and we have additional undergraduate and graduate programs under development in the area of applied artificial intelligence.
Job duties include designing new and updating existing pedagogically innovative courses and teaching classes in fall and spring semesters. Class assignments will be in person at ASU's West Valley campus and possibly other engineering programs on other campuses or online. In addition to classroom teaching, it is expected that the successful candidate will mentor students and participate in university and professional service activities.
A successful candidate for this position will have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching that incorporates active and experiential learning and other effective teaching pedagogies, will share our passion for engineering education, is informed by experience with industry and community, has experience with both engineering theory and the practice of designing, building, and testing real solutions, has worked across disciplines, will cultivate an inclusive learning environment, and will be effective in a highly collaborative and team-driven educational startup-style environment.
Appointment will be at the Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or (full) Teaching Professor rank commensurate with the candidate's experience and accomplishments. The starting date for the position is either January 1, 2027, or August 16, 2027.
Essential Functions:
- Designing new and updating existing pedagogically innovative courses
- Teaching classes in fall and spring semesters
- Class assignments will be in person at ASU's West Valley campus, and possibly other engineering programs on other campuses or online
- Mentor students, and participate in university and professional service activities
Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- Earned Ph.D. in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering education, or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment
Desired qualifications:
- Evidence of excellence in teaching, as appropriate to the candidate's rank
- Demonstrated commitment to a collaborative, transdisciplinary approach to teaching
- Experience designing and teaching hands-on, experiential, project-based courses in design studios/makerspaces
- Industry experience in the engineering field
- Experience in microelectronics
- Experience in applied artificial intelligence
